The Public Schools of Robeson County District is excited to announce a generous gift from Robeson County EMS in collaboration with Duke University RACE-CARS Trial. The organizations have provided the district with 13 Alarmed AED Cabinets, which will be placed at key locations within various schools to further enhance student and staff safety.
These life-saving cabinets, which house Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), will be readily accessible in the event of a medical emergency, allowing our staff to quickly respond and provide critical care. The AEDs are essential tools in cases of sudden cardiac arrest, significantly improving the chances of survival for individuals experiencing a cardiac emergency. Each school is already equipped with an AED device and these cabinets are an added layer of security in place at local schools.
The collaboration between Robeson County EMS and Duke University RACE-CARS Trial, has been instrumental in making this donation possible. Their support reflects a deep commitment to improving the health and safety of our community, particularly our young learners and the dedicated staff who support them every day.
"We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation," said Jan Newman, School Health Services Supervisor. "Having these AED cabinets in place will give our staff greater confidence knowing that they have immediate access to life-saving equipment if a medical emergency arises. We truly appreciate the efforts of Robeson County EMS, and Duke University RACE-CARS Trial, for their dedication to keeping our schools safe."
PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson echoed Newman’s gratitude for the donation.
“Ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and visitors is our highest priority, and this donation represents a significant step toward enhancing the protection we provide,” Dr. Williamson said.
“Thank you to our partners for helping us ensure a safer environment for everyone on our campuses and for their unwavering commitment to the well-being of our students, staff, and visitors,” he added.
The Duke University RACE-CARS (Rapid Access to Cardiac Emergency Care and Resuscitation Study) trial, aims to enhance cardiac emergency care and make critical tools like AEDs more accessible to communities in need. Through this collaboration, schools in Robeson County are now equipped with the tools necessary to save lives during emergencies.
"At Robeson County EMS, we understand the importance of having life-saving resources available in moments of crisis," said Patrick Cummings, EMS Director.
"We are proud to support our local schools in ensuring that they are well-equipped to handle any emergency situation. This partnership with Duke University RACE-CARS Trial is a prime example of how working together can make a real difference in the safety of our community," said Nestor Rivera, Deputy Chief at Robeson County EMS.
The AED cabinets will be installed in key areas such as gymnasiums, cafeterias, and other high-traffic spaces across our schools, ensuring easy access in case of an emergency.
“Together, we can continue to build a healthier and safer future for our community,” Newman added.
