October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Friday, October 13th, we encourage all students and staff to wear pink to honor breast cancer survivors, remember those lost to the disease, and to support the progress being made to defeat breast cancer. Let's paint Chapel pink!

Today for Indigenous Peoples Day, we wore Indigenous Peoples attire or orange t-shirts. Why orange? Of course orange is the favorite color of the Union Chapel Tigers, but it has become the color associated with starting discussions about issues important in Indigenous communities, such as the ill-fated history of residential schools. We love orange because it symbolizes sunshine, truth-telling, health, regeneration, strength, and power. Today, wearing our Indigenous attire and the color orange paid tribute to the strength and beauty of Indigenous cultures. We appreciate everyone who participated.

Say CHEESE! Fall Picture Day is next Monday, October 16th. Information is being sent home with all students today detailing the picture taking and buying process. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the school.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR BUS 49 FAMILIES: Tomorrow, October 6th, Bus 49, Mrs. Darlene Chavis' bus, will be a second load in the morning and afternoon. Please make the necessary arrangements for this change. If your child rides this bus and their grandparents are meeting them for breakfast tomorrow, please let them know that there may be a delay. Thank you.

Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow, we will be hosting our Grandparents' Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. We encourage you to invite your child's grandparents to join them for breakfast and then visit our Scholastic Book Fair in the school library. If your child's grandparents are planning to come to school, kindly advise them to check in at the front office, inform the secretary of their meeting, and wait for their grandchild to arrive. In the event that the grandparents are bringing the child to school, they should proceed directly to the cafeteria. We value and appreciate the support of our amazing grandparents and we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Please mark your calendar for our half-day teacher workday next Wednesday, October 11th. School will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Please make the necessary arrangements for your child. Thank you.

Happy World Teacher’s Day! Union Chapel thanks its teachers for the tireless effort they put into making sure our students are successful; both in academics and in life.

We are excited to share the results of the Spirit Riders 10th Annual Back to School Ride held in August. Each year the Spirit Riders select a school to be the recipient of their annual bike run, and this year Union Chapel was blessed to be chosen for this honor. After the profits from the bike run, auction, and donations were tallied, the Spirit Riders presented Union Chapel Elementary School with a check for $15, 910! The success of this event would have never been possible without the hard work and support of the Union Chapel faculty and staff, the Union Chapel community, the bikers who participated, and the Spirit Riders organization. We are eager to use these funds for the betterment of the students at Union Chapel Elementary School. Thank you to everyone who had a part in this event's success. Union Chapel Tigers . . . ROARing Our Way to Success!
