Assistant Principal, Debbie McKenzie has previously served as an elementary: Teacher Assistant, a middle school: Social Studies Teacher, and district: Digital Instructional Facilitator. She received her bachelor’s degree in History from Fayetteville State University, master’s degree in Social Science Education from Webster University, and master’s in School Administration from Fayetteville State University.

Ms. McKenzie began her educational career as a teacher assistant at Baldwin Elementary in Cumberland County.  She left the field for a few years to explore overseas opportunities.  When she returned to the states, she taught 7th grade social studies at Westover Middle School, also in Cumberland County.  Ms. McKenzie had a deep desire to educate students from her community and decided to become a middle school social studies teacher at her old school: East Hoke Middle, in Hoke County. After serving 4 years in Hoke County, she was promoted to a district Digital Instructional Facilitator position for Scotland County Schools.  Two years into her position, Ms. McKenzie applied to become a NC Principal Fellow.  She completed the program in May of 2020. Once she completed her internship and her program, she was hired as the Assistant Principal of Westover Middle School, where she began her teaching career.

As an instructional leader first, Ms. McKenzie has worked closely with district-level and school-level leadership administrators to ensure student achievement.  She provided support to elementary, middle, and high schools, implementing strategies and initiatives to encourage student success.
