Stress Awareness Month
The month of April has been known to be stress awareness month. Stress is an issue that everyone experiences. This is why it is extremely important we identify when we are stressed and find healthy coping strategies. Healthy coping strategies can go a long way with helping everyone live a happier and healthier life.
Familiar issues associated with stress:
Depression
Anxiety
Stomach disorders
Headaches
Heart disease
Healthy coping strategies to reduce stress:
Look after yourself. Exercise, create healthy eating habits, get enough sleep every night, and take a break when you feel yourself getting stressed.
Talk about your issues. Discuss how you’re feeling with a friend, family member, or another trusted individual.
Stay away from alcohol and drugs. According to research, individuals who are faced with an increased amount of stress, are more likely to misuse drugs and/or alcohol or relapse into the substances.
Identify when you may need additional assistance. Become aware of when to discuss your issues with a counselor, social worker, or psychologist if they carry on.
“The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.” -William James
