The Public Schools of Robeson County invites parents to partner with the district to support student learning and success.

In fact, many parents have already taken the pledge to do so during PSRC’s 2023-2024 Back to School Celebration. Hundreds of signatures were gathered on a banner displaying parents’ desire to partner with the district and support their child’s education.

The pledge is part of the School-Parent Compact, which outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the district, the schools and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the state’s high standards.

“The Public Schools of Robeson County school district is committed to partnering with parents in the education of their children. We value two-way communication and invite parents to voice their opinions and help guide meaningful conversations as we continue the ongoing effort towards district improvement,” said Jennifer Freeman, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, Intervention and Support at PSRC.

“Student achievement is our top priority,” Freeman said.

There are several ways that parents can partner with the district.

Robeson County Parental Advisory Committee

One way is through the Robeson County Parental Advisory Committee, which is made up of multiple individuals who act as the voices of parents and students.

The organization meets a few times throughout the school year to discuss and evaluate information relative to Parent and Family Engagement policy and other relevant district initiatives. Parents can join the PAC by emailing PSRC Family Engagement Specialist Brendalyn Thompson and brendalyn.thompson@robeson.k12.nc.us or calling 910-671-6000 ext. 3560.

PSRC District Improvement Team

PSRC’s District Improvement Team is made up of district leaders, teachers, stakeholders, and parents and guardians. The team meets monthly to discuss strategies to improve programs and practices based on the established goals in the district improvement plan. To learn more about the District Improvement Team, please email windy.dorsey-carr@robeson.k12.nc.us or call 910-671-6000 ext. 3502.

Parent Involvement at School

Parents and guardians can also learn more about opportunities to get involved at their student’s school including volunteer opportunities, parent nights, booster clubs, parent teacher organizations and more.

Other Ways to Prioritize, Support Education at Home

In addition, parents can support student learning by attending parent teacher conferences and encouraging habits at home like studying and reading.

Families can also support student success by engaging in discussions centered around educational expectations and behaviors. Parents and guardians can also set learning goals for their students.
