LUMBERTON — “Knowing we made a difference in a scholar's future and that we helped them believe in themselves along their academic journey has been the most rewarding part of the school year for me.”
Those are the words of PSRC Early College High School Principal Andrew Davis.
Davis beamed with pride as ECHS graduates crossed the stage on May 17, knowing that students overcame obstacles and that he had encouraged them along the way.
But, the principal himself has drawn inspiration from the very students he and ECHS school staff members worked each day this school year to inspire.
“Seeing all of our scholars achieve the Early College Scholar mindset early on has been so rewarding,” the principal said.
Davis mentioned how inspiring it was to watch students persevere and overcome challenges in the first semester.
“It can be overwhelming stepping onto a college campus for the first time, but our scholars successfully embraced the challenge,” Davis said. “Some scholars have said, ‘Without the supportive faculty at Early College pushing me and having faith in me, I'm not sure if I would have succeeded.’”
The principal said that staff members are committed to student success and serve as strong advocates for students' success during their time at Early College and in their future endeavors.
“It's our job as school leaders and staff to help students realize their potential and work towards achieving even more than they thought possible. The best part is that I have seen our scholars do just that this year,” he said.
The school’s robotics team ranked 12th in the state. Additionally, the school chartered Key Club, welcomed its first JROTC Class (through a partnership with Lumberton High School), and added an art class to its educational offerings.
PSRC Early College also brought home the following awards from the Senior Beta Convention in February:
● 1st Place Onsite Drawing Division 1: Favy Tolentino Rayon
● 2nd Place Three-Dimensional Design
● 2nd Place Spanish Academic 9th grade: Brian Diaz
● 2nd Place Language Arts Academic 10th grade: Graciana Parker
● 4th Place Visual Arts Drawing: Marley Pridgen
● 5th Place Visual Arts Digitally Enhanced Photography: Emma Scott
● 4th Place Robotics
PSRC ECHS students will attend the National Beta Conference this month because of their state-level standings.
Davis said collaboration is essential in providing students with opportunities to reach their goals and succeed academically.
“Our staff, our partners at Robeson Community College, and our stakeholders will continue to work together so that our scholars can be successful and graduate with skills that prepare them for college and life,” Davis said.
